Pain
is an alarm signal indicating a local organic dysfunction. Just as noise can
become unbearable, chronic pain can provoke a mental destabilisation and cause
more damage to the organism. Intense pain can disturb the emotional balance
and be a heavy burden on the nervous system.
Painkillers, which are very effective, have their limitations, because of the side effects they can provoke. These side effects can be gastric disorders and a decrease of the autonomous immune system. Therefore, it is useful to have other alternatives.
TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.
This small TENS apparatus emits electric pulses with different current forms and adjustable frequency. The electrodes are applied on the painful area or on the nearby nerves. Its small dimensions allow you to take it along and even to wear it under the clothing. The unit can be switched on immediately when pain arises.
TENS currents give a remarkable result for the treatment of various pain symptoms of acute as well as chronic nature. Tens are perfectly applicable to alleviate the pain during childbirth and to support labour.
The TENS works according to two principles:
1. immediate action on the nervous stimuli by disturbing the message sent
to the brain.
2. a prolonged effect by increasing the production of endorphins and enkephalins.
